Dear Friends,
Thank you for the support and encouragement you have given me in the past. Melissa and I had a very busy 2009 with projects at work and keeping up with four growing girls, two dogs, and our latest (and final) editions, two kittens. 2010 is an election year, and we are gearing up for the August 5th general election. Though campaigns can be very busy and stressful, I still find them fun and exciting. We have met so many wonderful people through public service and are very appreciative of your support.
It has been my honor to serve as your Shelby County Register. During my tenure, we’ve worked hard to provide exceptional customer service and improvements in technology.
As Shelby County Register, I have...
- used ZERO county tax dollars to operate the office.
- run the office exclusively on fees.
- reduced fees for our customers such as homeowners and re-financers.
- increased production by cross training employees and replacing outdated technology.
- produced record surpluses to help the county.
- developed a free website, http://register.shelby.tn.us, giving customers access to public property records and GIS data including aerial photos.
- initiated the move of archives from the Mayor's administration to the Register's office saving county tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars according to an independent study.
- added genealogical databases, exhibits, and documentaries to the website.
- introduced electronic filing of documents, which saves time and reduces expenses for customers and the Register's office.
These actions fulfill and go beyond the promises I made when running for Register of Deeds, and I continue to seek ways to improve service to Shelby County residents.
Production capacity has increased, charges have decreased, and the office has generated record amounts of revenue to help the county. If you believe this is the way government should be run, then I hope you will support our campaign.
I’m dependent on generous people like you to continue this job. If you’re pleased with my record of service, then I need your help. We have a great need for volunteers and any financial support you can give. Your contribution to the Committee to Elect Tom Leatherwood of $25, $100, $250 or whatever you can give, is greatly appreciated. The maximum contribution is $1,000 for the primary and $1,000 for the general election per person. To volunteer, click here. To contribute, click here.
Melissa and I are grateful for your help in retaining this important office. As I begin the campaign, I ask for your prayers, your vote, and your active support. Please call me at (901) 379-7502 if I can ever be of any service to you.
Sincerely,

Tom Leatherwood
